After Wa-Hi, spent 11/2 years at WSU and then three years in the Army. Toured Ft Ord, Albuquerque, New Mexico and Ankara Turkey. Discharged in 1964 and went to work for AAA in northern Calif in 1965 and retired in 1998 as a casualty Adjuster. |

After graduation I joined the USAF where I became a communcation splst. in Crypto. Stationed inTexas for two years then was transfered to Montana where I met and married my wife Charlotte, we have been married for fourty eight years. Was sent over seas to the Azore Islands. This was my last tour of duty. I returned to Great Falls in 1962 and have lived there ever since. We have two boys and nine grandchildren and four great grand children. I was assistant warehouse manager for Valu Mart for over a year then was offered a better job as manager of the warehouse and some times store manager for Yellow Front. Both places closed and moved out of state. Went from there and worked at a frozen food dist. and worked in route sales and warehouse for 12 years. Boss died and business folded. Worked for Garrett Freight till they moved out of state. Then I drove Semi for a welding supplier for twenty two years. Delivering hazardes material all over the state of Montana then I retired. I tried retirement for little over a year and did not like it. So I went and now working for Target and have been voted Hero of the month five times. Have been with Target for 6 years. I coached baseball for five years, bowling couch for 18years, was voted into the bowling hall of fame for couching the youth of Great Falls. The baseball team I couched went to state play off twice. I had to stop coaching when I started driving over the road. I am involved in church was on the church counsil for two terms. Tot sunday school the first and second graders. Was president of AAL (Aid Assosiation for Lutherans.) For ten years. Organized several fund raisers. Went to Vegas and Orlando, Daytona Beach for vacations. Also take our camper up to the lakes in the summer time to get away from the real life. |

Deceased Guadalajara, Mexico -- Former Walla Walla resident Dana Reeder Dickinson, 54, died here May 7, 1996. A memorial service was at Lakebay, WA Community Church, with burial in Lakebay Cemetery. Dana was born Oct. 6, 1941, in Pendleton, to Daniel A. and Geraldine Carnes Reeder. She came to Walla Walla, graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1959 and attended Kinman Business College in Spokane and Central Washington University, Ellensburg. For the past 25 years she lived in Mexico, where she was a homemaker and raised her children. Surviving are husband Jeffrey L. Dickinson, at home; three sons, Damon Dickinson of El Paso, Texas, Norman Dickinson of Mexicali, Mexico, and Daniel Dickinson of Austin, Texas; her mother, of Lakebay; a brother, J. Dean Reeder of Othello, WA; and four grandchildren. (note: from obit dated 7-2-96) |

Deceased Milton-Freewater -- David Daniel Dirks, 65, of 162 S. Main St. died June 5, 2006, at St. Mary Medical Center. David was born May 29, 1941, in Walla Walla to Arthur Ray and Gertrude Schulte Dirks. He became an amateur radio operator at 15 with W71DB. He graduated in 1959 from Walla Walla High School and attended Eastern Washington University and Walla Walla College. In 1963 he became a broadcaster with radio station KTEL. On April 20, 1978, he and Connie A. Beaver married in Lewiston. He had been general manager-owner of KWVR-AM in Enterprise, and moved from there to this area 20 years ago. He was sales manager of KEXI-FM, Comcast Media; general manager of KTEL-AM under Walla Walla Broadcasting, Inc. and ended in 1994 as general sales manager of the 97 Kick'n Country CNN station KNSN 97 News in Walla Walla and Tri-Cities. He loved camping, barbecuing, spending time with family, watching "Star Trek," tinkering with and repairing his grandchildren's bicycles and doing hobbies that involved electronics. Survivors include his wife, at home; three daughters, Lisa Dirks of Walla Walla, Deanna Oman of Milton-Freewater and Linda Larkins of Pendleton; three sons, Patrick Dirks of Newport, OR, Jeffery Dirks of Kirkland, WA, and Kevin Cooper of Pendleton; two sisters, Antonia Ross of Walla Walla and Georgie James of Palm Desert, CA; two brothers, Art Dirks of Walla Walla and Jan Dirks of White Salmon, WA; 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Michael Drake DECEASED August 22, 1941 - March 5, 2013 From U-B Obituary, March 10, 2013: Michael Samuel Drake passed away peacefully March 5, 2013, at his home surrounded by his wife and loved ones. Michael was born in Spokane on Aug. 22, 1941. His family later moved to Walla Walla, where he attended school and graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1959. After graduation he attended Columbia Basin Community College, Washington State University, and graduated from California State University, Sacramento, with a B.A. in psychology. Sacramento then became his home. His intent was to become a counselor for children, but his path lead him to become a mortgage banker, which was his career for 40 years. Michael was married to Margo Lane and they had two children, Sean and Rhonda. On June 24, 1989, he married Julee Baker and is survived by her at their family home in Newcastle, Calif. Michael loved his family, friends, hunting, fishing, antiques and collecting fine wine. He was a member of several organizations: Elks, Ducks Unlimited, Rocky Mountain Elk Hunters Foundation, Rotary. Michael had an incredible work ethic that started as a very young boy and carried on throughout his life. He was preceeded in death by his father, Glen Hallard Bright; mother, Mary Drake-Fanning; father, Lynn Drake; stepfather, Robert Fanning; brother, Kenny Drake; and his grandparents. He is survived by his wife, Julee; son, Sean Drake (Gail); daughter, Rhonda Drake; and grandchildren, Tony Stabile, Conner Drake, Dhillon Stabile, Trevor Drake and Addison Stabile; brother, Sterling Drake (Carlene); sister, Janeen Drake-Lathrop (Kerry); brothers-in-law, Rick Baker (Cheryl) and Craig Baker; and many nieces and nephews. A memorial celebration of his life and reception was held March 20, 2013, in Newcastle, Calif. Spouse: Julee Children: 1 Son and 1 Daughter Grandchildren: 4 Grandsons & 1 Granddaughter Activities/Hobbies: Hunting & Fishing I moved to California after Wa-Hi and finishing college. I graduated from Cal. and started the employment war with a mortgage banking firm in Sacramento. We lived in the Sacramento area. I started my own mortgage firm and built it up – sold it. Moved back to Walla Walla for six years and became half owner in the Dacres Hotel. I re-opened the original Dacres Saloon and ran it for five years. I moved back to California and returned to mortgage banking as a stockholder and CEO/President of another new company. I stayed in California and retired from banking in 2003 after forty years. I remarried a Pomeroy girl, Julee Baker. We just celebrated our 20 year anniversary. I still hunt and fish a little and work hard at keeping up with the acreage around our home. We spend a great deal of time with our children and grandchildren. |
