Grandchildren: AS OF 05/01/11   2 - and expecting two more soon one in July and one in October

Activities/Hobbies:  Connie, Motorcycle, Horses

After the shock of getting out of high school I went to work summers for the U S Forest service. I remember Going to the Oregon 100 year Centennial in Portland with Bill Brunton when he was still on crutches from his motorcycle accident.    Winters I attended Columbia Basin CC.I Remember doing car pool with a lot of you other CBC WA HI grads. I remember going to the Seattle Worlds Fair with the late Alan Erb in his Triump TR3.  We were entertained royally by my brother who, with his partners, had the one million silver dollars on display there at the fair.

In November of 63 I received a notice from our Uncle Sam and ended up in the same basic training company as Bob Baker, Dan Frandsen and Gale Sanders (a 58 WA HI grad).  After basic training I did time in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where I met two guys I served the rest of my tour with in Korea and Seneca New York. We are still good friends and remain in contact with each other via Email and trade vacation trips to see each other even though one is in Minnesota and the other in Maryland.

In 66 I returned to Walla Walla and a life in the Forest service where I met my wife of the past 41 plus years.  Connie Linscott  is a 63 graduate from WA Hi and after Graduating from Whitman College, returned to WA HI as a social studies teacher. We have two married daughters, Julie an Jennifer, with one 3 year old grand-daughter and one unknown it the hopper.

In 1997 I retired from the Forest service after 31 years spent in forests in Washington and Oregon, with the majority here in Walla Walla.  I now have a part time Job with the Noxious weed control board of Walla Walla Co.  Connie retired in 2001 after teaching 31 years at good old (or should I say the good New) WA HI.  We were on a cruse to Alaska in 2001 when 9/11 hit.  All the air sight seeing tours we had planned were canceled. We did the Walking tours.

Our four horses, three dogs, two cats, and two motorcycles plus the grand child does not leave us much time for hobbies.Oh YES Connie is still in that group that keeps me from the hobbies also.  The one grand daughter is here in Walla Walla but the one in Julies hopper is in Seattle so will be making a few trips there in the next 7 months. So Sam Raguso, and Elaine Lacy watch out for some phone calls.

Looking forward to seeing any of you that can make it to the reunion. I also want to know if you berney-its want a time to ourselves during this big event.

I will be checking this Web Site often to catch up on your memories of life after WA HI

SEE YOU SOON

Butch

Marital status: Single
Occupation: retired
Comment: Activities/Hobbies: Travel is #1! I am also an active volkswalker (untimed, noncompetitive walking events usually about 10K, or 6.2 miles. I did 59 in 2008). I enjoy reading, Sudoku, Anacrostics, photography, pinochle, and dinking around with the computer. After graduating from Wa-Hi, I attended Whitman College for two years. I ran out of funds (and interest) and got a job at Bendix Music for four years. I continued to play in the Walla Walla Symphony and during this time I traveled to Europe twice with the Grand Ronde Symphony in our government's People-to-People program. In the Fall of '65 I began at WWSU, majoring in Music with a minor in Elementary Education. I graduated in '68, moved to Woodland, and taught for one year in Vancouver, WA. I taught the next 29 years in Woodland, mostly fifth grade with a bit of fourth grade thrown in. I absolutely loved teaching!! I truly hope my students learned as much as I did. I do know that the more one learns, the more one wants to know. My M.A. in Ed. happened in 1980 from the University of Portland. I've had some form of motorized RV since 1974 (the first was a VW Pop-Top). I have driven in all 50 states (rental car in Hawaii!!), all the provinces of Canada except Nunavut, and 26 of the 32 states in Mexico. I traveled during the Summers when I was teaching, but retirement has been wonderful. I've been on all the continents except Antarctica. I have been on or in pyramids in Egypt, Mexico, Belize, Guatemala, and Honduras. Machu Picchu in Peru was so impressive, I've been there twice. I've walked on the Great Wall of China, seen Hadrian's Wall and Stonehenge in England, climbed up to the Acropolis in Greece, seen the Colosseum in Rome, walked through amazing Petra in Jordan, been through the Panama Canal, walked about in Angkor Wat in Cambodia, toured the Karnak Temple in Egypt., and been to the holy places in Jerusalem. Various critters are a major attraction for me. I rode an elephant in Thailand, and have ridden camels in Egypt and Australia. I got to hold a baby wallaby in Tasmania and a koala in Australia. I saw polar bears in Churchill near Hudson's Bay, thousands of Monarch butterflies wintering in the mountains of Mexico, touched a gray whale off the coast of Baja, gone snorkeling with sting rays in the Cayman Islands and Tahiti. I saw over 130 elephants at one time in Kenya, and been chased by baboons on that same trip. In the Galapagos Islands, I saw a land turtle which weighed more than 500 pounds, and had a sea lion nibble on my flippers. Water travel is super! I've cruised to Alaska, Hawaii, and various places in Mexico and the Caribbean. I went from Istanbul through the Black Sea and then the Mediterranean, and ended up in Oslo, Norway. I rafted through the Grand Canyon, on the River Kwai in Thailand, and the tidal bore in Nova Scotia. I've done a river cruise in Europe from Vienna to Amsterdam. The cruise in the Galapagos was wonderful! Along the way, I've met some fascinating people and have made some very good friends. It is always a treat to visit Walla Walla because of the many memories I have. The changes are astounding!!

I moved from Walla Walla to the Seattle area in 1982 when my wife was transferred with the telephone company.  She has four daughters, 12 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.  Together we have a well used birthday book.

I recently purchased a Roadtrek Mercedes motor coach and completed a trip to Branson, MO and New Orleans, LA totaling 6500 miles and 16 states.  I look forward to more traveling.  My dog is a manchester terrier and loves the coach also.

Retirement has given me the time and good health to enjoy my hobbies and activities.
