Spouse: John Children: 2 Sons & 1 Daughter Grandchildren: 3 Grandsons & 5 Granddaughters Activities/Hobbies: Kids and grandkids and attending their activities, sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, traveling, gardening lots of roses, spending time with family and good friends. My husband, John (class of ’57) and I got engaged upon graduating and married in January 1960. At that time I was working for Walla Walla Federal Savings and Loan. The following July I left employment there and went to work for the US Army Corps. of Engineers as a secretary. Our first son, Tony, was born in 1961 and our second son, Mike, followed in 1963. I was a stay-at-home Mom for many years, working only part time for the payroll division of General Foods. Our daughter, Susie, was born in 1968. I continued working part time for General Foods when they needed extra office help. In 1971 I was hired by Terminal Ice & Cold Storage, a refrigerated/frozen warehouse facility, working part time in the office. Years later I began full time, retiring from there as Operations Manager in 2004 after 32 years of service. The company had become known as Americold Logistics. Johnny is retired from over 30 years of service with Coca Cola and a lifetime of farming. Walla Walla has always been our home. Tony and Kelly and their two daughters, ages 23 and 18, live in Portland, Oregon. Mike and Renee and their three children, ages 15, 13, and 11, live in Sammamish, Washington. Susie and John and their three children, ages 16, 14, and 9, built a home next door to us in 1994, giving us the chance to spend very valuable time almost daily with them. We love attending all of their sports activities and also follow closely the Wa-Hi Blue Devils basketball team for which our son-in-law, John, is head coach. We had the pleasure of following them to Seattle/Tacoma this past March for the State Tournament. Retirement is as wonderful as everyone ever told us it would be. Many days pass and I wonder how I ever had time to work at a professional job. We have a large yard, around 100 roses, and acreage that requires Johnny’s care, where, in the past we grew carrots, spinach and onions. Spending time with our three children and all of our grandchildren is one of our favorite pastimes, along with numerous hobbies. I do a lot of sewing, quilting, scrapbooking, and yard work. We love heading to both Portland and Sammamish to spend time with our out-of-town kids and grandkids. We also enjoy other travels and have taken some very wonderful trips, including a three week vacation to Italy with three other couples in 2001. Cannon Beach on the Oregon Coast is also one of our favorite places to vacation. Spending time with good friends and family has always been and continues to be very important to us. It doesn’t seem possible it has been 50 years since we left Wa-Hi and all the fun memories of friends, clubs, sponsors, shuffle shop, Spudnut, and the list goes on. Let’s get together and reminisce. See you in August! |

Deceased b. 28 June 1942 d. 08 April 1991, in Northhampton, Mass. or Amhurst, Maine After Wa-Hi, Johnny stayed in Walla Walla and attended Whitman College as a freshman and sophomore. He then joined the Army for one tour of duty. After the Army, he began using his musical talent by playing in piano bars in San Francisco. Heading north, his next stop was Seattle where he entertained patrons at various venues, including the Edgewater Inn on the waterfront, where the likes of Johnny Ray also had played piano. Our Johnny was known by the stage name of Johnny Earl. Along his musical journey he played church music and made a CD of the same. He moved to Amherst, Maine where he became ill and struggled with his health for some time, succumbing to his illness in the spring of 1989. He was able to come back to Walla Walla in the fall of 1988 to visit family and friends for the last time. He is greatly missed along with so many of our fellow classmates who have left us prematurely. |

I attended only senior year at Wa-Hi as my father's work with Bonneville Power took us to Eugene, Oregon for my 9th, 10th and 11th grades of school. I have fond memories of four years at Sharpstein and Pioneer (5th through 8th grades), when we lived on Whitman Street across from that wonderful playground. I was saddened to read of the death of Tom Turner, who was a good friend in that time and place . I regret that I lost touch with him. However, over the years I have enjoyed seeing Kelly Farris, who also lived in the same neighborhood. Our paths even crossed for one year in the late 60's in Washington, D.C. when we were both on Army active duty. I did college, medical school, psychiatry training and child psychiatry training mostly in the Boston area. I returned home to Walla Walla summers of 1960 and 1961, working at Birdseye and for the Forest Service, but my father moved to Portland, Oregon, and the east side of Portland became my West Coast home for years. I didn't return to Walla Walla until a brief, sentimental journey through in 1986 with my Dad and family. Last summer (2008) I had a wonderful weekend in Walla Walla and environs at the annual conference of the Washington Ornithological Society. I loved rediscovering downtown, Sharpstein, Whitman and Dixie, Kooskooskie and Biscuit Ridge. Kelly came over from Seattle, and at a bar (somewhere near where the drive-in used to be on the old east side highway) we watched the Celtics nail the Lakers. So, in short, I was in New England, mostly Boston area, from 1959 to 1992, when my wife Jessica (also a child psychiatrist) and I moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota to help the University of South Dakota start a child psychiatry residency. After eight productive years there we moved to Bath, Maine, near where we had summered for many years. Retired from clinical work now, we are enjoying travel (a 2008 Winnebago View to transport our Maine Coon Cat), grown children and eight grandchildren. My youngest child Amanda is working in D.C. as Communications Director for Congressman Rick Larson, who represents the 2nd Congressional District. I have a sister in Buckley, a brother in Kalispell, MT and three first cousins in Oregon. I have been active with a local Maine Audubon Chapter, Merrymeeting Audubon, and try to stay fit with rec. basketball, walking and yard work. We also enjoy playing recorders. I welcome wandering classmates to look us up when you're traveling this way. I have tried to keep this brief. I have a fond memory from Wa-Hi of Agnes Little in senior English loving a two-page book review that I wrote of War and Peace by Tolstoy. |

Spouse: Sandy Children: 2 Sons and 1 Daughter Grandchildren: 1 Grandson & 2 Granddaughters Activities/Hobbies: Motorcycle touring, kayaking, photography, church 1959: Graduated from Wa-Hi and worked for Gardner and Company in Walla Walla for a year before attending college. 1961: enrolled in WSU’s electrical engineering curriculum. While at WSU, met my future wife, Sandy, while working a summer for Pacific Power and Light in Walla Walla. She was at the airport waiting a ride to Dayton and I was on a coffee break. We discovered that we shared a common college and that we both had spent many of our growing-up summers at Priest Lake. We enlarged our relationship when I returned to WSU that fall. 1965: left WSU with a BSEE and engaged to Sandy. Went to work at the Hanford Nuclear Reservation. Sandy and I were married just before her graduation as she was able to get her student teaching assignment in the Tri-Cities. We worked there six years in various engineering positions and upon leaving was supervising one of the N-Reactor Operations crews. Nixon was shutting the “Atoms For Peace” plan down so it appeared that staying at Hanford would be riding a dying horse. Sandy taught in the public schools during those years. We had one daughter during the time at Hanford and had found our way back to church life. We were teaching one of the junior high groups at Central United Protestant Church in Richland when we left for an engineering position with Washington Water Power in Spokane. 1971: we arrived in Spokane and began a 30-year career with Washington Water Power (now Avista Utilities). Sandy taught in both public and private schools over the years, except the years our now three children were preschool. Sandy spent much time with the Seattle Science Center outreach and has been honored numerous times for her skill at exciting young children about learning … particularly science subjects. She still teaches for Mobius in Spokane, one of the community supported children’s learning opportunities in Spokane. My career moved from engineering transmission and distribution systems, overseeing hydroelectric facility construction, and eventually working with the public on construction projects and controversial environmental cleanup projects. Both Sandy and I have continued our involvement with the church and church activities. Both of us taught the Bethel Bible series for a number of years. 2001: Retired in January and am employed part-time (a flex employee) for CH2M Hill doing work in business emergency preparedness, continuity of operations planning, physical security and threat analysis. I serve on the Spokane Plan Commission and work with the City/County Disaster Planning efforts. We enjoy most seasons at Priest Lake. Two of our children, a son and a daughter and two of our grandchildren are in Spokane. Our other son is married and in Oslo, Norway at the moment and has one child and one on the way. Sandy and I enjoy photography, hiking, boating, kayaking and most anything at Priest Lake. We travel occasionally and have enjoyed several trips to Mississippi and Louisiana to do Katrina Relief work in the last several years. We visit our son and his family in Norway. We now have a sport touring motorcycle and are enjoying some longer trips during the summers. We have moved to Priest Lake year'round and are just completing our first cold and snowy winter here.
