After I graduated from highschool, I attended Western WA. University. That next summer I came back to Walla Walla and went to work for Birdseye. Then I moved to Grangeville, Idaho and went to work for the U.S. Forest Service fighting forest fires and cutting brush. I came back home and joined the U.S. M. C. in 1960 and was stationed in Hawaii in the Infintry with plenty of KP and other duties. I was mounted out to Cuba two times and Laos one time before being transferred to Japan. I served as a Brig Guard and security for the remained of my tour. I was honorably discharged in 1965. After a month upon returning to Walla Walla, I went to work for the Union Pacific Railroad. I remained there for 36 years as a brakeman and conductor. For extra-curricular activity, my wife, Cindy ,and I started a coffee business in 1991 which we operated for 10 years. Also during that time, we started a band, THE PERCOLATORS, and had a real fun experience in the music world for the next 10 years. I have been married for 42 years to Cindy and we have two sons, Scott who lives in Seattle with his family and Aaron who lives in Wyoming with his family. They have given us 4 wonderful grandsons. Cindy and I have traveled the Caribbean and Europe since the early 80's and plan to do more as long as we can. We have taken up this 'crazy' game of golf and are becoming insanely addicted to it. Retirement is GREAT! Life is WONDERFUL! LIVE, LOVE, LEARN, GARY |

Spouse: Gib Activities/Hobbies: Running, Hiking, Skiing Since graduating from the U of Idaho (where I met my husband), I taught school for 36 years, mostly fourth grade. I retired nine years ago and since then we've spent a lot more time traveling. Summers we spend a lot of time on the Oregon Coast at a little beach house in Gearhart that my brother and I kept after my parents died. We've also owned a condo at Sun Valley for years and spend a lot of time there. Living here in Idaho, we take advantage of all the wonderful outdoor activities. Running is one of our special interests and we've remained very active in the running community. Our other big passion since college has been wine. |

Spouse: Neila Steven (Steve) Yeend 1941 - Feb. 5, 2013 DECEASED U-B Obituary: Steve J. Yeend, 72, died Feb. 5, 2013, at his home. Steve Yeend was born in Walla Walla. He graduated from Wa-Hi in 1959, attended WSU and graduated from Eastern Washington University. His career in retail management for J.C. Penney, Best Products and others took him to Spokane, Coeur d'Alene, Seattle and Phoenix. He owned a small business in Phoenix and ended his "working life" as a flight attendant for America West/US Air. The Yeend family began homesteading in the county in the late 1800s, and relatives still plow the same ground. His Eastern Washington roots were never far from mind. He was often seen sporting his "cougar colors" on the golf course wherever he would travel. The lure of lifelong friends, relatives, and "all things Walla Walla" drew him and his wife, Neila, back "home" after his retirement in 2011. In the fall, Steve was diagnosed with acute pneumonia and spent most of the month of November in Provence St. Mary Medical Center. Although spending December and January at home, he never fully recovered. Steve's passion was his extended family. He is survived by his wife, Neila, Walla Walla; son Christian in Coeur d'Alene; daughter Corina in Seattle; sister Judy Sells, Birch Bay; brother Bill, Camano Island; stepdaughters Susie, Annette and Tracia and their children and dozens of loving cousins and "shirt-tail" relatives, all of whom have some connection to the Walla Walla Valley. There was a memorial service Sunday, February 10, 2013, at Mountain View-Colonial DeWitt, 1551 Dalles Military Road, Walla Walla, Washington. Pastor Tim Bruner of New Beginnings officiated. In lieu of flowers, a contribution in Steve's name to Providence St. Mary Foundation would be appreciated. Friends may write memories and sign the online guestbook at www.mountainview-colonialdewitt.com . Steve's input to Class Website: After graduation I spent a year at WSU where I spent too many weekends in Moscow and was not invited back. I spent a semester at NIJC and realized that I had no idea what I wanted to do, so I enlisted in the Army “Europe Unassigned", ended up in the artillery stationed in Germany. I spent almost a year on the Ski Patrol in Garmish on the Austrian border. Not bad duty – no “KP” – no “Guard Duty”. After returning to my unit in Gelnhausen, Germany I met wife number one, Inge. She had a son, Chris and we adopted a daughter, Corina. We were married for twenty years. During our time together I graduated from Eastern and went to work for J.C. Penney’s and was in the management program with them in Spokane and Coeur d’Alene. I left the Penney Company and went to work for Best Products in Seattle. Best Product s was perhaps better known in the Northwest as Jafco, a catalog showroom retail merchandiser. Inge and I were divorced while we were in Seattle and it’s in Seattle where I met my wonderful wife, Neila. Shortly after we were married in 1987 we were transferred to Phoenix. I spent twenty plus years with “Best” and was a store manager in Phoenix when the company was liquidated. I had a candy franchise in Phoenix for the next few years and then sold the franchise to go to work for America West Airlines – now US Airways – where I am still employed as a flight attendant. Neila has three beautiful daughters who live in the Seattle area and the youngest lives in Spokane. Our youngest granddaughters live in Spokane and we moved to be near them in 2005. We have enjoyed the two snowiest winters in a long time and we are looking forward to the return of warm weather.
