I was a Food Inspector for 38 years in Washington, Oregon and Idaho.  I also had assignments in Colorado, California, Florida and Brugge Belgium.

Eldon R. Sherlock, 51, died Feb. 1, 1991 at Walla Walla general Hospital.





The rosary was recited Monday in the Herring Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Raymond Beard of Athena officiating.  Burial was at Mountain View Cemetery.





Eldon was born Dec. 21, 1939, in San Luis Obispo, Calif., to Orville L. and Mattie Reichert Sherlock.  He came to the area at the age of 3 and attended St. Patrick Grade School.  He graduated from Walla Walla High School in 1959.





He was in the cattle business for some time and then went into the autioneering business with his father.  He married Opal Brock on April 13, 1962, in Walla Walla.  Mr. Sherlock was an active supporter of the Future Farmers of America and 4-H.  He was also a member of the Catholic Church.





Mr. Sherlock is survived by his wife, at home; four daughters, Jennifer McGinnis of Germany, Tina Sherlock and Tana Sherlock, both of Walla Walla, and Leta Emerson of Medford, Oregon; two sons, Eldon Sherlock Jr. of Emmett, Idaho, and Anthony Sherlock of Fort Benning, GA.; his father, Orville Sherlock of Walla Walla; a sister, Claudette Potter of The Dalles, Ore.; two brothers, Normal Sherlock of Fairfax, Va., and Warren Sherlock of Encinitas, Calif.; and 15 grandchildren.





He was preceded in death by his mother, Mattie Sherlock and a brother, Anthony Sherlock.

OLYMPIA -- Former Walla Walla Valley resident Robert K. "Bob" Sibbett, 60, died at his home Oct. 1, 2001.





Bob was born March 25, 1941, in Afton, Wyo., to Wilbur "Bill" and Mary Kirk Sibbett.  He lived in Dayton and the surrounding area, including Walla Walla, and graduated in 1959 from Walla Walla High School.





He served in the U.S. Navy, was discharged in 1962 and left the Navy Reserves in 1964.





On Aug. 5, 1961, he married Zenaida "Zeny" Riego de Dios in Cavite City, Philippines.  Their first child was born there and they returned to San Francisco three months later.





After returning to Walla Walla, he worked at various jobs, including selling cars.  They raised their family in Longview, and he continued as a car salesman, most recently in Olympia.  He underwent quadruple bypass surgery about a year ago.





He enjoyed funny stories, classic cars and especially being with his family.





Survivors include his wife, at home; three daughters, Marie McLain, Sherrie Sibbett and Christina Sibbett, all of Olympia; a son, Tony Sibbett of Castle Rock, WA; a brother, Richard Sibbett of Walla Walla; and two grandchildren.

This is my first reunion so this will fill in a 50-year gap. 





Joined the Marines in October ‘59.  First assignment after San Diego boot camp and radio school was Camp Lejeune, NC followed by a couple years on Okinawa from whence toured Mindoro Island in the Philippines, Udorn and Korat, Thailand (with the 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade) and finally Danang, South Vietnam, as NCOIC of a small detachment there. 





After the Marines I returned to climb poles for the UP Railroad along the Columbia and Snake rivers for 9 mos before beginning a 28-year career with the Central Intelligence Agency, that was mostly spent overseas in a dozen or so countries (mostly the Middle East) except for a few years in the U.S. including Virginia and California.  Places left bootprints included Tehran, Ankara, Rome, Milan, Venice, Manila, Beirut, Khartoum, Riyadh (Desert Storm), Kuwait, Iraq, Sana'a (Yemen), El Salvador, Moscow (USSR) and a few other garden spots.  Shelled, rocketed and car bombed (nearby) in Beirut, rocketed in Riyadh (Iraqi SCUD), sand-blasted in a Sudanese haboob (sand storm) and in a few coups and nearby terror attacks (Zamboanga), it was an adventure and I was lucky not even getting a scratch.  Miss those fun times, though, but make a lot of trips "down memory lane."  There are pics I took of a few places at the website address above.  Seems still to be there although I haven't added anything including captions for years now.





I returned to WW in December 2001 from the Philippines where I retired to spend some time with my Dad, who later required a heart valve replacement while I was visiting -- so I moved into his place to help out since he lived alone.  He passed on the morning of his 100th birthday in 2011 and I haven't left yet, other than make trips here and there (including the Oregon coast to visit my daughter).  Our old home town makes a perfect base for that (at least for now .... those white sand beaches, coconut palms, warm seawater and beautiful sunsets are calling me .... think I hear Bloody Mary singing Bali Hai in the background).





Some classmate friends may recall I purchased what may have been the first SCUBA rig in Walla Walla during my senior year.  Well, that became a life-long hobby (including underwater video) which took me from LaJolla (while still in the service) to dive spots from the Philippines (where I retired for a number of years) to Palau and the Caribbean.  Last was the Florida Keys in June of 2013.





Memberships: NRA (Endowment/Life), Central Intelligence Retiree's Association (CIRA), Association of Former Intelligence Officers (AFIO), Marine Corps Association (Life), Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW/Life), American Legion, Manila Post 94.





So here's a toast to our next fifty years.  To good health, prosperity and a long life to one and all.  Hoping to see some of you at our 60th reunion in September 2019.

After high school I joined the Air Force and became an aircraft mechanic, stationed at Richards-Gebaur AFB. I met and married Pat while stationed there and just before being sent to Okinawa for 18 months.


 


Our oldest daughter, Linda, was born while I was stationed in Okinawa. In 1965, our son Bob was born in Kansas City, Missouri, Pat’s home. We moved to Seattle and I went to work for Boeing as an aircraft mechanic. In 1969 our youngest child, Lisa, was born and at the same time I was laid off from Boeing. That was the year they said, “Will the last person to leave Seattle please turn out the lights?”


 


I spent the next two years driving at Greyhound. When Federal Way School District needed drivers, I moved there, eventually becoming a driver trainer. In 1978 I moved to Issaquah School District as Transportation Supervisor and on to Bellevue School District where I became Transportation Manager.


 


After 26 years in the school system, I retired in 1997. The next seven years Pat and I worked the fall crush at Chehalem and Sineann Wineries in Oregon. It was a lot of fun and very hard work.


 


In 2005 we decided to try our hand as RV Caravan leaders and signed up with Adverture Caravans. We were “Tailgunners” first, and then leaders, called “Wagonmasters”. We traveled to Mexico, Alaska, and the Canadian Maritimes, spending four years with the company.

Comment: Wow! What a journey the past 50 years has been! Upon graduation, I went to NNC and graduated with a teaching credential. My first teaching job was in CA because it seemed like a great adventure and I could learn to surf. The latter never happened but I met my husband and we will celebrate our 45th anniversary just before the reunion. After living in areas like L.A., San Diego, San Jose, Sacramento, and Santa Barbara, we now live in a small rural area called Hollister, CA which is inland from the Santa Cruz/Monterrey area. It is a a "destination" place. In other words, it is not on the way to anywhere. We love the quiet (except on July 4th when 70,000 motorcycles come to town for their yearly rally). John was in retail management and good at it, so he was always on demand in new locales. (usually in CA) I taught in many districts through the years but teaching was my passion so always loved the challenge. I stayed home for a few years when our children were small. We have two. Our son Grant. graduated from Cal Tech and got his masters at UC. He, his wife and three of our grandchildren live near San Diego. Our daughter Gretchen, graduated from Pepperdine, lives with her husband near Santa Monica, has a daughter and one on the way, so is on a leave from the Beverly Hills School District. I retired from teaching three years ago. We spend our time traveling to see the kids in southern CA. Love those grandkids!!! John is originally from Denver and has family in Nashville so we have driven back and forth many times. What a beautiful country we all live in! We took one cruise (up the Rhine) before the economy went south. Now we are homebodies. I do keep busy with gardening, reading, am active in BSF and my church, and also volunteer as a tutor in our adult literacy program. School days at Wa Hi were good days. I look forward to connecting with many of you in August.
