I moved to Walla Walla May 6, 1947 from Cedar Rapids, Iowa and started school in Sharpstein.  We lived at 617 S. Park Street.  We moved three months before school was out when I was in the sixth grade to Prescott.  I skipped the seventh grade and moved to Pasco the third month of my 9th grade.  We moved again to Burbank at the end of my ninth year and stayed there.  I graduated from Burbank in 1958.  I married Leonard Klug on December 28, 1958 and we just celebrated our 50th anniversary.  We have three children and one foster girl,  Seven Grandchildren and four Great Grandchildren.  Most of my life has been spent being a caregiver.  At the present I take care of my Mother who is 99 and my husband, and grandchildren when I can.  We've had a wonderful life and I think about my time at Sharpstein with fond memories.

James M. Tompkins, 54, of Walla Walla died Jan. 30, 1995, at Park Manor Rehabilitation Center.

Jim was born Jan. 23, 1941, in Walla Walla to Bill and Velma Clark Tompkins.  He attended Davis Elementary School in College Place and Garrison Junior High, graduated from Walla Walla High School and attended Washington State University for two years.

He became a payroll accountant and worked at various locations in the Pacific Northwest and Adak, Alaska.  For at least four years, Mr. Tompkins was an office manager for one of the Alaskan pipeline construction companies.  In the late '70s, he traveled through South America for three months and brought back many pictures and mementos.

He returned to Walla Walla in 1979 and worked as payroll accountant at Boise Cascade and Blue Mountain Action Council.  He also worked seasonally for American Fine Foods.  He was a certified public accountant.

He was interested in electronics and worked with and recorded things on tape between the TV and VCR.  His taste in music ranged from Viennese waltzes to Willie Nelson.  He also enjoyed watching old black and white movies.

He was diagnosed as a cancer patient in the spring of 1994 and continued to live at home until ill health required his move to the care facility.  His pride and joy was his cat, Bogie, who visited him at Park Manor.

Surviving are three sisters and two sons-in-law, Linda and Walt Fortier of Kennewick, Marcia Tompkins of Kennewick, Marcia Tompkins of Cheney and Sherry and Al Elliott of Seattle; a brother, Shannon Tompkins of Walla Walla; several aunts and uncles, including Fae and Chester Coley of College Place; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by two brothers; and one sister.

Betty Jean Trout Anthony, 64, of Walla Walla, died at home May 1, 2004.

The funeral, at Herring Groseclose Funeral Home was held Friday with the Rev. Zedell Jackson Jr. of Solid Rock Church of God in Christ officiating.  Burial was in the Garden of Peace section of Blue Mountain Memorial Gardens on Myra Road.

Mrs. Anthony was born Jan. 31, 1940, in Dayton to Arthur Sr. and Melba Waldo Trout.  She attended schools in Dayton and Walla Walla.

She and Herbert "Huck" Anthony met in 1973 and married July 10, 1989, in Arkansas.  She was stepmother to several children.  Prior to retirement in 1991, she was a housekeeper at Park Manor Rehabilitation Center.

She loved flowers, especially irises, and working in her flower garden.  She also enjoyed volunteering at the dialysis center and playing bingo, making others laugh and smile and dressed up as a clown, the Easter bunny and Santa Clause.

Mr. Anthony died in 1999.  She was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis/Lou Gehrig's Disease in 2002.

Survivors include three daughters, Betty, Carmen and Lupe Hernandez, two sons, Joe and Cory Hernandez, and her mother, Melba Marlette, all of Walla Walla; three sisters, Dixie Black of Northport, WA, Kathy Mullings of La Pine, OR, and Rita Romero of Walla Walla; four brothers, Ed, Claude and Donald Trout, all of Walla Walla, and Stewart Trout of Milton-Freewater; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by a son, a brother and adopted mother Lupe Callsias.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va -- Former Walla Walla resident, Thomas Fairfield Turner, 66, died Dec. 11, 2007, at the Winchester Medical Center.

A memorial service was held at First Presbyterian Church in Martinsburg, WV, with Rev. Rufus T. Burton officiating.

Tom was born Sept. 8, 1941, to Leon "Lee" Fairfield and Fern Edith Dilts Turner, in Walla Walla.  He received a bachelor of arts degree from Washington State University, a master's degree from the University of Washington, and completed graduate courses at Stanford University.

Throughout his career he worked for several contracting firms managing the testing and evaluation of military systems.  In his retirement, he taught mathematics at Shepherd University.

He was an American Contract Bridge League Life Master and had a master rating with the American Chess Federation.

Tom was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Martinsburg, and Cress Creek Country Club where he enjoyed participating regularly with the most experienced golfers.

He is survived by his wife, Anne "Scotty" Turner; two sons and daughters-in-law, David and Cynthia Turner of Potomac Falls, VA, and Lee E. and Barbara Turner of Titusville, FL; and four grandchildren, Michael, Allison, Susanna and Ashley Turner.  He was preceded in death by a sister, Jeanine Turner.
