DECEASED

Genevieve "Genny" Herigstad
(July 13, 1941 - May 2, 2014)

Genevieve Ann Golden Herigstad, revered mother, grandmother, sister and friend, went to be with her Heavenly Father on May 2, 2014, after passing away at Hospice House in Kennewick.

Born in Walla Walla, on July 13, 1941, to Robert and Delphine Golden, Genny stood out as an athletic girl and developed a strong work ethic, which continued throughout her life.

Music played an important part in Genny's life, which was fulfilled early as a violist in the Walla Walla Sumphony Orchestra.  Education was also very important to her, and she was proud of having earned her bachelor of sociology from Whitman College in 1964 and her master's in sociology from the University of Oregon in 1969.  In 1964, Genny was one of the first female police officers for the Seattle Police Department.

Genny married Harold Herigstad in 1968, and they made Pasco their home.  As a counselor for Employment Security Division in Pasco, Genny helped countless people before stepping out of the professional world to raise her five children.

Genny is preceded in death by her husband, Harold Herigstad; and parents, Robert and Delphine (Rhoades) Golden.  She is survived by her sister, Maralyn (David) Carey of Walla Walla; her five children, Jennifer (Michael) Bittner and their sons Kaden and Declan of Kennewick, Robert Herigstad of Pasco, Douglas (Mary Jensen) Herigstad and their children Holden and Abdigail of Richland, Alison (Travis) Nelson and their children Josephine, Timothy and Charles of Richland, David Herigstad of Queens, N.Y.; as well as many friends.

A Rosary service will be held on Thursday, May 8, 2014, at 6 p.m., with viewing at 5 p.m., at Mueller's Greenlee Funeral Home in Pasco.  A funeral Mass will be held on Friday, May 9, 2014, at 1 p.m., at Saint Joseph's Catholic Church in Kennewick.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Tropical Health Alliance Foundation, www.thaf.org.

The family invites you to sign the online guestbook at www.muellersfuneralhomes.com.

Retired - State Farm Insurance Agent Married 1

Children:  1 Daughter
Grandchildren:  2 Granddaughters
Activities/Hobbies:
Golf & Winemaking

After high school, I attended Columbia Basin CC.  I returned home in 1961 and served four years in the Navy.  From the Navy I moved to Beaumont, Texas where I met my wife of 41 years, Mary Ann.  I moved back to Walla Walla in 1969 with my wife and my daughter, Connie, just in time for the first ten-year reunion.  I opened a State Farm Insurance Agency, retiring 30 years later.  I have two granddaughters.  Jessica is 17, and Lauren is 16.  Connie graduated from Wa-Hi, and both granddaughters are there now.  My two favorite pastimes are making wine and playing golf, both of which I enjoy to this day.

Retired Office Mgr. LE Spitzer Co., Inc. Married

Spouse:  Lew
Activities/Hobbies:
Golf, Tennis, Mah-Jongg

After graduating from Wa-Hi, I attended EWU for 2 years and then I moved to Spokane where I began my working career.

In 1973 I married the love of my life, Lew. My husband was a contractor, mainly working for the Federal Government on various military bases throughout the Western U.S. and Alaska. I worked as the office manager. We decided to retire in 1982. After retiring we were able to travel to many great places around the world.

In 1991 we bought a winter home in Las Vegas.  We began spending three to four winter months in Las Vegas. We spent the other months in our Spokane home. After about five years of summers in Spokane and winters in Las Vegas, we decided to move full time to Las Vegas. The full time move to Las Vegas was mostly my decision as I had gotten into playing golf and tennis and I had made many new friends. Lew and I have lived permanently in Las Vegas for over eleven years now. I just love my life here. I play golf three or four times a week and tennis several times each week. I am the captain of an “old girls” league tennis team. Wednesday is my “free” day and I have a group of four women that I play mah jongg with. So you can see I have a busy, busy life!

Lew and I never had children but we do have a loving family of three pets. Zipper and Lucky are our two small Teddy Roosevelt Terriers and Bootsie is our “drop in” tuxedo cat. They keep us quite busy.

My life has been good and I look forward to seeing everyone at the "Big 50" reunion.

John was in banking and retired as Senior Vice President of First Hawaiian Bank. I worked in the medical field in hospital administration and pathology, and retired from Kaiser Permanente in 2006. I thoroughly enjoyed my career and the educational opportunities it provided. We returned again to the Portland area in 1997, and now live near Portland in Sherwood, Oregon.
